Ivanov
Classic Stage Company`
5 December 2012

Ethan Hawke gives a daring performance of Chekhov's equivalent to Hamlet; Joely Richardson breaks the audience's hearts in just a few scenes as Ivanov's dying wife; Juliet Rylance gives a very good performance as the young Sasha.

The Heiress
Walter Kerr Theatre
21 November 2012

Excellent performances by Jessica Chastain, David Strathairn, Dan Stevens and Judith Ivey.

Jump for Joy!
New York City Center
5 November 2012

Career Transition For Dancers 27th Anniversary Jubilee showcases various dancers and honors Liza Minelli, hosted by Angela Lansbury.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Booth Theatre
11 October 2012

Great performances by the four cast members but the production is overly long and started out fun to watch dysfunctional people then it got kind of unbearable to watch towards the end.

Marry Me A Little
Theatre Row
16 September 2012

Nice little musical with songs by Stephen Sondheim. The two singers have nice voices.

Peter and the Starcatcher
Brooks Atkinson Theatre
13 September 2012

Extremely entertaining, funny and innovative take on the Peter Pan story.

If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet
Laura Pels Theatre (Roundabout)
12 September 2012 (Matinee)

This is Jake Gylenhaal's New York stage debut. Pretty good acting and very good English accent.

Summer Shorts 2012
59E59 Theatre
12 August 2012

Spit by Wendy Kesselman and The Accidental Pundette by Nancy Giles. Drive-In Dreams by James McLure was not performed. Interesting one-act plays.

War Horse
Vivian Beaumont Theatre
10 August 2012

Amazing puppetry. Enjoyed the intricate performances of both the actors and the horses.

In Paris
Lincoln Center Festival
Gerald W. Lynch Theatre
4 August 2012
It was worth seeing Mikhail Baryshnikov again albeit not as a dancer although he did a little marvelous dancing as a Matador. His performance was restrained and his movements carefully choreographed. Enjoyed meeting him again after the show.

Gore Vidal's The Best Man
Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre
24 July 2012

What an all-star cast even though some of them (Cybill Shepherd, Elizabeth Ashley, John Stamos, and Kristin Davis) are replacements of the original cast (Candace Bergen, Angela Lansbury, Eric McCormack, and Kerry Butler). James Earl Jones and John Larroquette complete the fantastic cast.

One Man, Two Guvnors
Music Box Theatre
6 July 2012

James Corben really deserved his Tony for this show. The guy is a dynamo. I thoroughly had fun watching this show. There's some audience participation.

The Bad and the Better
The Peter Jay Sharp Theatre
1 July 2012

This show has so many characters and at times seem chaotic because of the innumerable plots but all in all a rewarding play.

Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire
Broadhurst Theatre
26 June 2012

Quite unmemorable version of one of my favorite plays.

The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess
Richard Rogers Theatre
19 June 2012

Audra MacDonald was out ill and she was the only reason I wanted to see this show.

The Australian Ballet
David H. Koch Theatre
17 June 2012

This is another version of Swan Lake, loosely based on the royal triangle: Diana, Charles and Camilla. There is no Odile, and the evil wizard is now Baroness Von Rothbart, the princes' older, former lover who taunts the young bride, Odette.

End of the Rainbow
Belasco Theatre
16 June 2012

Tracie Bennett was captivating and electrifying as the legendary Judy Garland at her sad and declining days. The show is about  her London stint at the Talk of the Town.

Ghost The Musical
Lunt-Fontanne Theatre
14 June 2012

Ghost the Musical has very nice special effects and the cast, Caissie Levy and Richard Fleeshman were good but Da'Vine Joy Randolph was the scene-stealer as Oda Mae Brown. It was wonderful to hear "Unchained Melody" several times.

Jesus Christ Superstar
Neil Simon Theatre
6 June 2012

Paul Nolan looked appropriate as JC but Josh Young stole the show as Judas Iscariot. I saw the original Broadway production and was really impressed then.

Lonely, I'm Not
Second Stage Theatre
30 May 2012

Topher Grace of Spiderman 3 fame was funny and engaging and so was the show.

Common Pursuit
Roundabout at Laura Pels Theatre
29 May 2012

Simon Gray's collegiate humor was thoroughly enjoyable under the able direction of Moises Kaufman.

Wit
MTC at The Samuel J. Friedman Theatre
14 March 2012

Cynthia Nixon gave a very strong, captivating performance (shaved head and all) in a very stirring and emotional play.

Götterdämmerung
Metropolitan Opera
7 February 2012

Unfortunately, Deborah Voight was out ill but luckily Katarina Dalayman, who will be singing Brunnhilde later and also at one Ring cycle, was a very able and capable replacement.

Gob Squad's Kitchen
Public Theatre
5 February 2012

Loosely based on Andy Warhol's "Kitchen".Audience was invited to tour the set before the show commenced. There was audience participation and all in all the show was an interesting, goofy parody and spoof of Warhol's movie-making effort.
